Overview
The project entailed installing 2 new boilers, and a gas guard system for our client, the Diocese of Salford. The works began in March 2024 and finished around Mid-May of 2024 and valued at almost £50,000.
The aim of the project was to replace all the components of the boiler room that had exhausted its life cycle, with brand new components, to increase competence of the heating services. With the help of our team at Athertons, the boiler room was able to carry on operating for several years without the need for constant servicing, which in turn satisfied our clients and aided the thriving parish and church community in Chorlton.

The Mechanical services work for our consultant, Integrated Services Engineering Ltd, consisted of the following installations.
1 .2no gas fired boilers joined with a cascade kit, associated pipework and plate heat exchanger.
2. SNS Gas guard and control system
3. New Tado controls and programmer
4. Ansell tornado 2×6 Led light
5. New Warrior air and dirt separator ,Magna Clean DRX Magna filter, BOSS Stainless steel dosing pot, MikroFill pressurization unit with Micro Pro expansion vessel.
Challenges & Solutions
One of the main challenges our team faced was the asbestos found in the chimney stack that had to be cleaned due to it being harmful. In order to clean this, we erected scaffolding and installed a new flue liner down by liaising with a scaffolding and flue company to overcome the problem.
Another issue we encountered, was that since it was a church, and the walls were too thick, we had issues with the infra-red programmers. After brainstorming a solution, we planned to change into wired programmers and the issue was resolved within a week.
Summary
Regardless of the obstacles with the chimney and the composition of the walls in the building, we delivered a top notch project to our clients by collaborating with external companies and working as a team. We received excellent feedback from our clients and assured all the mechanical works was issued to a high standard. By executing the works for the Church, our teams capability to perform boiler room installations in a range of sectors such as ecclesiastical buildings was displayed.
